When Should Class of 2027 Seniors Book Photos in San Antonio?
One of the questions I get asked most often is:
"When should we schedule senior photos?"
My answer is simple: book early, but don't feel like you have to shoot immediately.
Many families think they need to take senior photos as soon as they reserve a session. In reality, booking and photographing are two completely different decisions. The earlier you book, the more options you'll have for dates, locations, and planning. Then together we can choose the season that works best for your senior.
For most San Antonio seniors, my recommendation is to reserve your session as early as possible and aim for a fall session if your schedule allows.

WHY I RECOMMEND FALL SENIOR SESSIONS
While many photographers recommend summer, fall is actually my favorite time to photograph seniors in San Antonio.
September, October, and November typically bring cooler temperatures, beautiful evening light, and a much more comfortable experience overall. Let's be honest, standing outside in South Texas in August isn't always fun.
When temperatures are lower, seniors are more relaxed, hair and makeup last longer, and we can focus on creating amazing images rather than rushing through the heat.
Fall also allows you to enjoy your photos throughout almost your entire senior year.
Your images can be used for yearbook submissions, college applications, scholarship applications, graduation announcements, senior recognition ads, social media, graduation party invitations, and family gifts.
Instead of receiving your photos right before graduation, you'll have them available during the months you'll actually use them most.

Great for Public and Private School Seniors
Whether your student attends Harlan, O'Connor, Reagan, Johnson, Brandeis, Clark, Brennan, Taft, Sotomayor, Saint Mary's Hall, Keystone School, TMI Episcopal, Antonian College Preparatory, Incarnate Word High School, Central Catholic, Providence Catholic School, or San Antonio Christian School, fall sessions generally provide plenty of time to meet yearbook deadlines while taking advantage of some of the best weather of the year.
Many private school families actually begin planning their senior portrait experience during the spring or summer before senior year begins because they know how quickly calendars fill once school starts.
Booking early gives you the most flexibility and the best choice of dates.

WHAT ABOUT SPRING?
Spring is my second favorite season for senior portraits.
February, March, and April can be absolutely beautiful in Texas. Wildflowers begin appearing, temperatures are comfortable, and everything feels fresh and colorful.
If fall doesn't work with your schedule, spring is an excellent option.
The only challenge is that senior year tends to get busy very quickly. Between prom, athletics, banquets, senior trips, graduation activities, and end-of-year celebrations, calendars can fill before families realize it.
That's why I typically recommend fall first and spring second.
Both seasons can create beautiful images.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT LOCATION
One of the biggest advantages of booking early is having access to the widest variety of locations.
Some seniors love the modern architecture and energy of The Pearl. Others prefer downtown San Antonio, Alamo Heights, Boerne, Fair Oaks Ranch, Helotes, Stone Oak, or the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
The best location isn't necessarily the most popular one.
It's the location that feels like your senior.
My goal is always to create a session that reflects their personality, interests, and style while creating images that will still look amazing years from now.
MY ADVICE TO CLASS OF 2027 FAMILIES
If I could give families one piece of advice, it would be this:
Don't wait to reserve your session.
You don't have to photograph tomorrow, but securing your date early gives you the most flexibility and the least amount of stress.
The most requested fall and spring dates are usually the first to disappear from my calendar, especially for families in Helotes, Boerne, Castroville, Fair Oaks Ranch, Stone Oak, Alamo Heights, Shavano Park, The Dominion, and throughout the San Antonio area.
Senior year goes by faster than anyone expects. Before you know it, you'll be ordering announcements, attending graduation, and wondering where the time went.
